We Will Remember Them…

poppiesToday is the 11th day of the 11th month, and here in Britain, it is the day when we take just two minutes out of our busy lives in silence to remember those who have given their lives for our freedom.

On this day in 1918 the First World War ended. Since 1921, we have come together as a nation to mark the day every year to remember with gratitude, all the men and women who have lost their lives fighting for the freedom of our country, not just in the Great War, but also in World War II and all other conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan and beyond.

Wearing a poppy is a visual reminder to yourself and others of what sacrifices servicemen and women have made to ensure we live in safety, and the donation you make will help those affected by the horrors or war to rebuild their lives.

The Royal British Legion, founders of the Poppy Appeal, use the funds raised to provide financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants.

For their sake, please wear a poppy, and show your support for the marvellous work of The Royal British Legion. Click here to be directed to the official website for this year’s Poppy Appeal.

Children In Need Casino Fundraiser

Pudsey2On November 20th, the BBC are once again campaigning to raise money for a very worthwhile cause, Children in Need. Children in Need are a charity raising money for underprivalaged children and young people across the UK. They give grants and bursaries to organisations who offer help and support to neglected, abused and distressed children, and those living in poverty who are desperate for financial help.

In 2008, Children in Need raised over £38 million, every penny of which went towards helping disadvantaged children across the country.

Thanks to the kind generosity of the British public, thousands of children without a hope have been given the opportunity to shine, and this year Harlequin Fun Casino want to help too.

If you’re considering fundraising for Children in Need this year, and you’re no how to do it, please get in touch. There are lots of different ways a fun casino can be used to raise money for charity, and we’d love to be able to help. Perhaps you have an event planned and want something extra to entice ticket sales?  If so, we’d love to hear from you. Please send any information about your event via email to info@harlequinfuncasino.com

If you’ve got your own ideas and are thinking of fundraising on your own, take a look at the official website http://www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/ for lots of fundraising ideas and advice.

Happy Fundraising and good luck!

Countdown to Christmas…

ChristmasWith only 48 days, 20 hours, 6 minutes and about… 12 seconds left until Christmas, we’re getting into the festive spirit and breaking open the mulled wine. It always amazes me how quickly the Christmas season creeps up on us. One day you’re making the most of the last few irksome days of the British summer in your flip flops and shorts, and the next, your local supermarket begins to stock Advent calendars and heart-attack sized tins of quality streets.

With that in mind, many of our customers started booking their fun casino nights back in July, but if, like me, you’re not quite that organised, and you’re thinking of having a fun casino at your Christmas party, get in touch and let us know the date you have in mind as soon as possible. Fridays and Saturdays are the first dates to go in our diary, but we do still have dates free. If it’s easier for you, just fill in the enquiry form at the foot of the page and we’ll get back to you the same day, or if it’s out of office hours, the next morning.

We're Twitterpated…

twitter-home-page-thumbHow thoroughly modern of us. We’ve gone and put ourselves on Twitter this week. The whole world seems to have gone Twitter mad. Everyone’s doing it, from Jo Bloggs down the street to A-List celebrities like Demi Moore and Britney Spears. We had to have a look, just to see what all the fuss was about, and we ended up losing ourselves for a good few hours. It’s surprisingly captivating reading daily, 140 character monologues from Stephen Fry or catching up with the latest news and events from your favourite bands.

So if you have a Twitter page already, why not “follow” us (yes, we even learned the terminology!) and send us a “Tweet”, or if you haven’t a clue what we’re talking about, take a look for yourself. It’s amazingly voyeuristic and a little hyped up, but surprisingly addictive.

Diary of a Vegas Addict…

I just got back from fabulous Las Vegas having done a little shopping for chips, cards and accessories for Harlequin. (I love my job!)

My new suppliers are Spinettis Gaming Supplies. These guys have everything, and I mean everything you could need in the way of casino supplies. It’s a collector’s paradise in there. Thanks again to Henry and Dave for helping me pick out the chips. It was a logistical nightmare getting them back to London, and involved bending a few baggage allowance rules, but it was worth it.

Whilst I was there, I picked up several decks of authentic Caesars Palace playing cards which have been used in play in Caesars Palace casino. They’ve obviously been marked to make them invalid for use in the casino again, but they’re perfect for Harlequin.  Our customers get to play Blackjack in the UK using playing cards which have actually been used in play in Las Vegas.

I had to visit a few clubs whilst I was out there too… would have been rude not to, since they’re some of the best in the country.  Went to Tao at The Venetian for the first time and was thoroughly impressed, but ultimately ended up most nights in The Bank at Bellagio, my very favourite nightclub in my very favourite hotel on The Strip. Anyone who has been in Bellagio (or seen Ocean’s Eleven) will know what I’m talking about. It’s just so grand and elegant, and The Bank is always fun.

I am somewhat in Love with Las Vegas. I was sauntering  through The Venetian and a friend pointed out an adorable trio of elderly ladies at the blackjack tables wearing bright green visors and ‘Mardi Gras’ beads, with their “What Happens In Vegas…” t-shirts on sipping Bloody Mary’s… I was this close to joining them for cocktails. It was like seeing my future made flesh.  I hope I never get bored of Las Vegas. The sound of the slots, the bright lights and the general buzz of the atmosphere that seems to radiate up and down the strip.

I have already started planning my next trip 😉
